PURPOSE
To standardize the vertical position of closet rods and the boring for their supports, so that center and side supports fit without modification and rod height is consistent across jobs.
RESPONSIBILITY
- Engineering — Apply these parameters to all closet rod details. Dimension the rod centerline and support boring on the drawing. Approve and document any deviation.
- Stockbilling — Verify the rod centerline and support boring are present and correct before release to Production.
- Production — Bore to the dimensions shown. Report conditions where the standard cannot be held instead of adjusting at the machine.
PROCEDURE
- All dimensions below are taken from the underside of the fixed shelf above the rod.
- Set the rod centerline 2 13/16" below the underside of the fixed shelf, measured to the center of the rod. This is the dimension the center support requires.
- Where a center support is used, mount it on this same centerline.
- For side supports, bore (2) 5mm holes at a 1 1/4" spread, centered on the rod centerline established in step 2.
- Dimension both the rod centerline and the support boring on the shop drawing.
- Where the standard cannot be held — no fixed shelf above the rod, sloped or dropped ceiling, ADA or client-specified height, existing field conditions — dimension the deviation on the drawing and obtain Engineering approval before release.
EXPECTATION
Every closet rod detail released to Production shows a rod centerline 71mm below the underside of the fixed shelf and side support boring of (2) 5mm holes at 32mm spread centered on that line. Supports install without field drilling or modification. Any rod not following this standard is drawn as an approved, dimensioned deviation.

These need answers before adoption.

- Hardware identification — Confirm the manufacturer and part number of the center support and side supports, so the standard stays tied to the hardware it came from.
