SOP: Sink Apron Construction Standards
PURPOSE
To standardize the construction and detailing of sink aprons to ensure consistent appearance, eliminate visible seams, and improve overall product quality.
RESPONSIBILITY
Engineering team is responsible for:
- Applying this standard to all sink apron designs in shop drawings.
- Clearly detailing apron and top relationships.
- Verifying compliance during drawing review.
Production team is responsible for:
- Building sink apron assemblies per drawings.
- Ensuring joinery follows the intended design.
Apron Panel Spec: Maximum desired interior apron height: 9**”**
Procedure
- Sink Apron Orientation
1.1 All sink aprons must:
- Run horizontally across the cabinet front
- Be continuous across the width of the sink cabinet unless otherwise specified
- Top and Apron Relationship
2.1 The cabinet top must die into the sink apron
2.2 The sink apron must remain:
- Continuous and uninterrupted at the front face
- Prohibited Condition
3.1 Do NOT design or build:
- The sink apron dying into the cabinet top
3.2 This condition is not allowed because:
- It creates a visible seam at the top of the cabinet
- It reduces visual quality on a high-visibility component
- Modeling & Drawing Requirements
4.1 Clearly show:
- The sink apron as a continuous horizontal member
- The cabinet top terminating into the apron
4.2 Include sections where necessary to clarify:
- Joinery condition between top and apron
4.3 Avoid ambiguous detailing—this condition must be obvious in drawings
- Verification
5.1 During internal review, confirm:
- Apron runs full horizontal width
- Cabinet top dies into apron (not vice versa)
- No exposed seam exists at the top front edge
Expectation
- All sink apron cabinets have a clean, seamless front appearance
- No visible seams occur at the top of the cabinet
- Engineering and production maintain consistent, repeatable detailing across all projects
