PURPOSE

To standardize hinge placement across door types for consistent hanging, alignment, and hardware performance.

RESPONSIBILITY

Shop and Installation staff hanging doors and mounting hinge hardware.

PROCEDURE

1. Slab doors (butt hinges): Position hinges 7" from the top of the door and 11" from the bottom, measured to the center of the hinge.
2. Doors over 8' in height: Add a 4th hinge, spaced evenly between the top and bottom hinges.
3. Tectus (concealed) hinges: Position 10" from the top and 10" from the bottom of the door, with any additional hinges interspaced evenly. Confirm exact hinge placement against the Tectus manufacturer spec sheet before cutting (see Open Item below).
4. Stile-and-rail doors: Align hinges with the top and bottom rail (see Open Item below).
5. As a general floor/top reference: 11" from finished floor and 7" from finished top, with intermediate hinges spaced evenly.

EXPECTATION

Doors are consistently hung with correct, code-appropriate hinge placement, with no field rework due to misplaced hinges.
